Flood Tragedy

More flood heartbreak this morning ... as police search for 3 people feared drowned after the car they were in went into a river in Northern NSW.

Police divers are trawling the Tweed River at Tumbulgum ... which is between Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads ... to find the car ... which it’s feared contains the bodied of a woman and her 2 children.

One of the occupants of the car ... a 9 year old girl ... managed to escape and went for help.

Witnesses jumped in the water but could not reach the submerged car ... it was too far down ... in the already swollen river.

It appears sludge left on the road by receding waters caused the car to lose control and enter the river.

Police are urging motorists to use extreme care as the cleanup continues...
