Search suspended for NSW swimmer's body

The search for a Sydney teenager who went missing a week ago while swimming off the NSW mid north coast has been suspended.

Ali Mosawi, 17, was swept away in a rip on Saturday afternoon while swimming in treacherous surf with his brother and three cousins at the unpatrolled Pebbly Beach, north of Coffs Harbour.

The teenager is believed to have drowned and a recovery operation to find his body has been called off after six days.

"There's no police operation any longer," a NSW police spokeswoman said on Friday night.

"What we're doing is we're now waiting for any new information."

She said police and lifesaving volunteers will continue to conduct patrols of the area as part of their regular tasks.
