Medical students have welcomed a Federal Government plan to wipe doctors’ and senior nurses’ student debt.
The proposed legislation is set to pay their loans if doctors and nurse practitioners choose to work in regional and remote areas like Mildura and Swan Hill.
Leanne Boase from the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners says it’ll go towards covering a master’s degree.
In March this year, the Federal Government sought feedback from key industry stakeholders, and The Australian College of Nurse Practitioners then raised concerns around the original criteria set for Nurse Practitioners to apply.
The new criteria will now mean that the legislation could attract approximately 850 Nurse Practitioners and Doctors every year to remote and rural areas of Australia.
