New research highlights three factors contributing to road fatalities

New research has highlighted an alarming trifecta contributing to a significant rise in fatalities and serious incidents on our regional and rural roads.

Figures reveal almost two-thirds (64%) of fatalities on the nation’s roads last year were in areas outside our major cities.

Despite that, 1 in 2 drivers admit to unsafe driving on regional roads, such as speeding (47%), driving fatigued (20%) or using a mobile phone behind the wheel (14%).

Russell White from the Australian Road Safety Foundation says the findings are a timely wake-up call for Rural Road Safety Month which runs throughout September.
