Electricity customers in the Broken Hill region were impacted by extensive storm damage in mid-October 2024 and the storm also damaged electricity infrastructure.

As Transgrid continues work to restore the backup electricity generation to the Broken Hill region, Essential Energy is working on alternative energy supply to critical locations through a series of strategically placed generators.

Transgrid has advised that they expect to have generation online by mid-afternoon with power planned to be restored for the community a couple of hours after that.

Essential Energy is working with NSW Government to identify critical sites to provide backup power until Transgrid can return supply to the community.

In the meantime, NSW Government is setting up respite centres to provide support for impacted communities.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is providing power at the town halls in Menindee, Wilcannia and White Cliffs. Other locations are also being identified and will be listed on the NSW Energy and Climate Change Action website https://www.energy.nsw.gov.au/
