Mildura left without reserve pumper

Fire Rescue Victoria’s Reserve C Pumper has been relocated from station 72 to Melbourne due to a shortage of appliances around the state.

Member for Mildura, Jade Benham has asked the Minister for Emergency Services, Jaclyn Symes why she’s putting the lives of regional Victorians at risk in favour of those in the city during a question in Parliament.

Ms Benham pointed out during the course of the debate that fires and major incidents are not uncommon during the regions peak harvest period.

Ms Benham also noted that fire restrictions have commenced in District 18 and volunteer brigades often attend the same incidents as FRV, leaving the community vulnerable should another major incident occur.

“This is a vital piece of firefighting equipment that is taken out of the area during our peak season.”

“Our fire brigades are under enough pressure during the summer months, this is just unnecessary stress for all brigades during peak season.”
