The sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence starts today, and the Mallee Accommodation and Support Program are drawing attention to the importance of the event.

It comes as data shows that more than one in three women have experienced men’s violence.

On average, a woman is killed by a man she knows every ten days, but that number has risen in 2024.

The campaign addresses the prevalence of this issue.

MASP staff including Acting CEO Charmaine Calis participated in the recent Mildura White Ribbon Walk Against Family Violence, leading into the 16 Days of Activism from Monday November 25.

“MASP staff see the impacts of family and domestic violence every day and the significant impact this has on those within our communities,” Mrs Calis said.

“Everybody has the right to feel safe and secure and we want to see a world where this is the case.”

MASP will also participate in the Sunraysia Turns Orange initiative on Wednesday, November 27, acknowledging the 16 days campaign.
