MP Helen Dalton has taken to social media to ask the question, how long until there is no Aussie food on the shelves?
The Member for Murray says Australia’s food imports have skyrocketed to nearly $40 billion in 2023-24, marking a $7 billion increase over just two years, and that this trend spells trouble for hardworking local producers in the Murray and across the country.
She has also pointed out why she thinks the increases have happened:
Major supermarkets expanding international food aisles.
Soaring costs for local producers, from energy to raw materials.
Trade agreements creating challenges for Australian-made products.
The Murray Member even has some ideas on what needs to change, saying water miss-management is killing our farmers, we need support for Australian made products and she says to stop the water buybacks.
