Member for Mildura Jade Benham, joined with sponsors Mildura RSL Sub-Branch, Mildura Gateway Tavern, Sunraysia Petroleum and other local supporters to announce Hannah Saunders and Rhiannon Jack as the recipients of the 2025 Farnsworth Lochhead Lowe Scholarship.
The Farnsworth Lochhead Lowe Scholarship is named in honour of local soldiers Private Raymond Farnsworth, Warrant Officer John Lochhead and Lance Corporal Edward Lowe, who each made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.
This unique scholarship supports participants to trek the historic Kokoda Trail, gaining a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made during World War II and the values of courage, endurance, mateship, and sacrifice.
“The Kokoda Trail is not just a physical challenge; it’s a journey of reflection and learning,” Ms Benham said. “This scholarship provides an incredible opportunity for our young people to connect with our history, honour the legacy of our veterans, and grow as future leaders. I am deeply grateful to the community sponsors who have contributed to making this trek a reality.”
“I am delighted to award the scholarship to Hannah and Rhiannon. They are outgoing, conscientious students with a connection to Kokoda and who contribute to their community. They embody the spirit, drive and determination required to embark on the trek.
