February 6, 2025 8:49 am in by

A red alert warning for blue green algae on a section of the Darling River has been lifted.

Water New South Wales now has the river at Burtundy on an amber alert.

The red alert was lifted following two consecutive laboratory algal reports.

While on amber alert, the water is generally considered to be suitable for water sports, but water users are advised to exercise caution.

It is also advised not to drink untreated or boiled water from the river at Burtundy due to the risk of stomach upsets.

Boiling the water does not inactivate algal toxins.

Red alerts are still in place in Menindee and at the Great Darling Anabranch near the Silver City Highway.
