Up to 50-gigalitres of water’s being flushed from the Menindee Lakes to the Lower Darling River, to address the blue green algae, that’s been in sections of the river since February.
A red alert’s been issued for the Darling for most of that time, with landholders urged not to drink or bathe in water unless appropriately treated.
Landowners are also being urged to take photos over the next three weeks to confirm the effectiveness of the trial.
