OzFish is preparing to re-release Freshwater Murray Crayfish into the Murray River.

The celebrations will be happening tomorrow afternoon at Swan Hill’s Riverside Park (under the bridge).

Fourteen-hundred of the animals were relocated to aquaculture sites during the 2022-23 floods to help save the crayfish from the rivers adverse conditions at the time.

Braeden Lampard, OzFish Program Manager – Murray Darling Basin, expressed his gratitude for the volunteers’ hard work during the rescue mission.

“Volunteers are fundamental to OzFish, and without their help, we wouldn’t have been able to rescue these iconic species. The re-release is not just about putting crayfish back into the river; it’s about acknowledging the community effort and dedication that went into saving them, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship and collaboration.”

The event is expected to run from 5:300 until 6:00 tomorrow afternoon.
