Friday 18 April 2025 an 18-year-old male solo rider from SA was detected by police speeding on the Sturt Hwy, Merrinee.

Detected speed: 158km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The rider had only held his rider’s learners permit for a month.

His reason: he was overtaking a car.

He will also spend time away from his bike to think about his actions. His bike was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1675.

He will be charged with exceeding the speed limit, speed dangerous and manner dangerous.

Monday 21 April 2025 a 36-year-old male from SA was detected by police speeding on the Mallee Hwy, Ouyen.

Detected speed: 174km/h in a 100km/h zone.

He and his vehicle will be spending some time apart.

His reason: he was in a rush coming back home from Bathurst.

His car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1950.

He will be charged with exceeding the speed limit and driving at a speed dangerous.

Both males will have a chance to explain their poor driving behaviours to a Magistrate and if convicted face a mandatory licence loss of a minimum of 12 months.
