Health experts and advocacy groups are welcoming a decision that will lower the bowel cancer screening age for Sunraysia residents from 50 down to 45.
The change in the national guidelines comes as figures reveal 1 in 9 bowel cancer cases in Australia now occur in people under the age of 50.
They also show Australians aged 40 to 49 account for more than half (56%) of all new cases and nearly two-thirds (64%) of deaths in the under-50 age group.
CEO of Bowel Cancer Australia, Julien Wiggins, says the decision to lower the screening age will help save lives.
