In the aftermath of a security scare at Avalon Airport where a 17 year old allegedly boarded a flight to Sydney with a shotgun before being overpowered by fellow passengers, Mildura has been left off the list of airports asked to conduct urgent risk assessments.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has ordered all capital city airports to undergo the reviews, Mildura not included in the additional nine larger regional hubs being looked into.
“The department is also working on measures which would require airports to improve detection and monitoring of any intrusion into their grounds,” Mr Burke said.
Avalon is the only Victorian regional airport on the list.
