Multi-agency response to mine fire – Broken Hill

About 11:00am yesterday (Monday 13 January 2025) emergency services were called to the Perilya Mine following reports of a fire.

There was a fire at the mine on Sunday night which was extinguished yesterday morning but the re-ignited.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District also attended alongside, Fire and Rescue NSW, SES and NSW Ambulance.

Smoke was emanating from the site but the extent of the fire was and currently remains unknown.

FRNSW was urging residents to remain indoors and to close windows, doors, and vents due to the smoke in the area.

An investigation into the fire has begun.

There have been no reports of injuries.
