Nearly 30 homes inundated

It’s been revealed nearly 30 homes on the Mildura side of the region have been inundated by floodwaters.

Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp has been in the region looking at the latest situation and meeting with local representatives and community members.

Watch and act messages remain in place along the river to avoid flooded areas, while some residents are still being warned it’s not safe to return.

The Murray is expected to reach its peak of thirty-eight point four metres today in Mildura.

River peaks expected locally:

Murray River:

Euston peaked around 03:00 pm Friday 09 December, just below the major flood level. The Murray River at Euston may remain above the moderate flood level until late December. The river level may fall below the minor flood level around mid-January 2023.

Mildura Weir may peak today with moderate flooding. A prolonged peak is possible with the river level remaining above the moderate flood level until the end of December.

Wentworth may peak around 16-18 December, with major flooding. A prolonged peak is possible through to early January 2023.

Darling River:

Menindee Town is likely to remain near its peak until at least mid-January, with moderate flooding.

Pooncarie may remain around 7.30 metres through to late December, with minor flooding.

Burtundy may peak around late December, with minor flooding.

If you are at risk of flood make sure you have adequate essential supplies including food, drinking water, medications, pet food, and animal feed to last for at least ten days.
