Victoria Police reminding locals and visitors to stay safe around water

Police say whether you’re taking a dip, heading out on the boat, or fishing in a river, creek or lake this summer, – be careful of hidden hazards.

They say that inland waterways have many hidden dangers such as submerged objects, debris and strong currents.

Police have the following tip before heading out:

Read safety signs to understand the dangers and check out the weather forecast.

Watch out for unstable edges on river and creek banks.

Wear a lifejacket when boating.

Be prepared for unexpected falls into water.

Always tell friends or family where you’re going and when you plan to return.
