Whooping cough on the rise in 2024

There are concerns Australia may have a whooping cough epidemic with cases already passing 11-thousand over the last six months.

Mildura has recorded three cases so far this year, which was the total number for 2023.

There are concerns for young children, over 65s and pregnant women.

Authorities’ say it can be easily spread by adults who don’t realise they have it.

Around the state:

Geelong, 40 cases so far this year compared to 10 this time last year and 20 for the whole of 2023.

Wyndham, 31 cases, 5 this time last year and 20 for 2023.

Greater Bendigo, 9 cases so far this year compared to 1 this time last year and 3 for the whole of 2023.

And Ballarat 6 cases so far this year compared to 1 this time last year, the only case for 2023.
