Selwood cops two fines
GEELONG captain Joel Selwood is free to play in Thursday night’s AFL blockbuster against Brisbane despite being charged with two offences by the match review officer.
Selwood was hit with fines for misconduct and rough conduct in separate incidents that occurred during the Cats’ thrilling five-point win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.
He can accept $1000 and $2000 fines respectively for early guilty pleas.
In the first incident, Selwood pushed his fist into Bailey Dale’s head as the Bulldogs defender was pinned on the ground in a tackle.
Later, Selwood put his hand in Taylor Duryea’s face and stumbled over his leg when the former Hawk had fallen to the ground after taking a mark.
The long-time Geelong skipper was one of his team’s most important players against the Bulldogs with 29 disposals, 10 clearances, six tackles and a goal.
The Cats won the match when Gary Rohan kept his cool to kick the winning goal after the siren.
It set up a huge contest against Brisbane at the Gabba on Thursday night, with both sides attempting to press their claims for a spot in the top-two.
