Girl, 9, hit by ute in Tas northwest

A nine-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a ute while crossing a road in Tasmania's northwest.

Police say the child was struck on West Park Grove at Burnie on Monday afternoon when she attempted to cross the road from behind a parked car.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to the North West Regional Hospital. Her condition is still being assessed.

Early investigations indicate that alcohol, drug and speed were not contributing factors in the crash.

"Police would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to speak to their children of the dangers of crossing roads in the vicinity of parked vehicles," they said in a statement.
