Body found in western Sydney car blaze

A person has burned to death in a car fire in Sydney's west, prompting a public appeal from police to discover what happened.

Emergency services were called to a street in Smithfield around 8.20am on Saturday, where they found a car "well alight".

When fire crews were able to put out the blaze, they found a body inside which is yet to be identified.

A crime scene has been set up and detectives are calling for anyone with information to contact them.

Anyone with dashcam footage from Brenan Street, Smithfield between 7.30am and 9am on Saturday is also urged to come forward.
