The Winter Solstice. Shortest Day or Longest Night?
June 21st 2017. The Winter Solstice. To most people it means the shortest day, for the "earth children", naturalists and old Hippies like my self if means the Longest Night. Its not about the Sun...more about the Moon and its interaction with nature. Today the Moon wont "set" until 10 past three this afternoon and wont rise until 5am tomorrow. Sure the moon and sun will be "knocking about together" for most of the next few days but today at 2.24pm the Earth (currently tilted on its axis 23.4 to 23.5%) the Sun and the Moon will truly share the atmosphere as one. The local flora and fauna will receive the message to flower, fruit and reproduce. A message of survival I guess!
The Moon is a Female the Sun Male. Thats why he dies each night to let her breathe and tonight is her main performance.
"To a person uninstructed in natural history, his country or seaside stroll is a walk through a gallery filled with wonderful works of art, nine-tenths of which have their faces turned to the wall". - Thomas Huxley.
