Karumbi Breaks Records in a Big Way A little goat from Kerala has stolen hearts and headlines. Karumbi, a black pygmy goat owned by farmer Peter Lenu, has been officially crowned the world’s shortest living goat by Guinness World Records. Standing at just 1 foot 3 inches (40.50 cm) tall, Karumbi is no taller than a rule book.
How the Tiny Goat Took the World Stage Karumbi’s claim to fame started casually. Her size had always been a point of pride for Lenu, but it wasn’t until a visitor suggested nominating her for a world record that the idea gained traction. After undergoing measurements and health checks with the help of a local vet, Karumbi was confirmed to be a full-grown, healthy goat. That confirmation was all it took to secure her place in the record books.
The Herd at Home Despite her tiny stature, Karumbi lives large on her Kerala farm. She shares her space with three male goats, nine female goats, cows, rabbits, hens, and ducks. Lenu, proud of his farm, noted he takes particular care to preserve the genetic quality of all his animals. “I take special care to maintain the genetic quality of all the animals I have,” he said.
More Records on the Horizon? Adding to the excitement, Karumbi is currently pregnant. Lenu is eager to meet her baby, and with her genetics, there’s a chance the little one might break records of their own.
The Breed Behind the Fame Karumbi belongs to the Canadian pygmy breed, renowned for its petite size and naturally short limbs. Typically, these goats don’t have legs longer than 21 inches (53 cm), and Karumbi’s particularly compact frame made her stand out even among her already small peers.
